What happened
On 16 September 2026 XCMG held a groundbreaking ceremony for the XCMG Indonesia Remanufacturing Center in Balikpapan, Indonesia. It is the company's first overseas facility dedicated to the overhaul and remanufacturing of mining equipment components. XCMG officially announced the project on 18 September.
The company itself calls the centre the starting point of a local after-sales system designed to support its mining equipment throughout its entire service life. As XCMG puts it, this marks a shift from being an equipment supplier to being a provider of solutions for the machine's whole life cycle.
What the centre will include
According to XCMG, the site will bring together four lines of work:
- overhaul and remanufacturing of key components;
- a regional spare parts warehouse;
- training of local technicians;
- remanufacturing of used equipment.
The processes will form a single chain: return and inspection of removed components, their repair and remanufacturing, parts supply and service directly at the customer's site. The centre will work to international remanufacturing standards and run a lean quality management system.
The company sees the main practical benefit in major repairs being carried out locally. This should cut downtime and service response times and help customers keep operating costs and fleet availability under control. An unnamed representative of an Indonesian mining company said that repairs and parts support would become faster and that downtime losses would be easier to control.
XCMG has not disclosed the investment amount, the centre's capacity or its commissioning date. For now it is a construction site, not an operating facility.
Why Indonesia
XCMG has been working in Indonesia for more than 30 years, and the remanufacturing centre is the latest step in a long localisation drive. According to International Mining, more than 30,000 of the brand's machines are in operation in the country, and the company has a network of sales and service outlets, over 100 service vehicles and a three-tier parts supply and service system.
In recent months alone XCMG has taken several notable steps in the country:
- On 27 July the company's first overseas factory for electric equipment opened at the Weda Bay industrial park (IWIP). The first batch of XC968-EV electric wheel loaders rolled off the line for its partner, the Tsingshan group.
- On 9–12 September, at the Mining Indonesia 2026 exhibition in Jakarta, the company presented its own financing arm, XCMG Indonesia Finance Company (ABC Multi Finance).
- Earlier in 2026 an Indonesian research and development centre opened to adapt the equipment to heat, high humidity and harsh operating conditions.
There is also a large fleet to look after. In 2025 XCMG delivered 32 XDE130 mining trucks of the 120-tonne class to Indonesia for Cokal's PT Borneo Bara Prima project, and another 35 of the same trucks to the contractor Darma Henwa for the Bengalon coal project. The Darma Henwa order also included four XE2000 hydraulic excavators and two XE1250 machines.
What it means for Kazakhstan
The new centre will not be a direct service resource for customers in Kazakhstan: according to XCMG, it is aimed at Indonesia's mining and infrastructure sectors. But it clearly shows the direction in which the company is developing its service for mining customers abroad.
The company has been present in Kazakhstan since 2001 and, by its own account, has exported more than 40,000 units of equipment to the country. Its subsidiary XCMG Kazakhstan was registered in Almaty in 2017 and became fully operational in 2019. It handles delivery, customs clearance, warehousing, service, dealer oversight and training. In June, at the AMM-2026 congress in Astana, XCMG described how its machines perform at a lead-zinc mine in the Karaganda region: there they haul ore uphill along a five-kilometre route, and after six months of trials the daily haulage per machine exceeded the design figure by 12%, after which the customer ordered additional batches. Two more XCMG electric loaders work at the Pustynnoye gold deposit, averaging about 15 hours a day.
The published materials say nothing about plans to open a similar component remanufacturing centre in Kazakhstan or Central Asia.
What fleet owners should do now
If your mining fleet includes XCMG machines or you are planning a purchase, the Indonesian experience is worth using as a benchmark in negotiations:
- Ask your dealer or XCMG Kazakhstan where engines, transmissions and hydraulics for your equipment are currently overhauled and how long that takes, including shipping the components.
- Ask whether there is an exchange pool of remanufactured components and a regional parts warehouse, and if not, on what terms one could be set up for your fleet.
- When buying new mining machines, write service response times and component remanufacturing terms into the contract, not just the price and warranty.
- Plan overhauls in advance, based on operating hours, so that component logistics do not turn into weeks of downtime.
The more XCMG equipment works at Kazakhstan's mines, the stronger customers' case for local service becomes. The Indonesian example shows that XCMG builds its first facility of this kind where it already has a large fleet and major mining contracts.
