What was shown in Xuzhou

On 20 September XCMG held the world premiere of Hanjing, a new-generation heavy electric truck, in Xuzhou (Jiangsu province). The truck is designed for intercity long-haul freight. The company says plainly that it wants to take its electric trucks beyond short, fixed routes. The state set the stage for the launch: in May China's Ministry of Transport, together with ten government agencies, approved a plan for the large-scale adoption of heavy electric trucks, including on trunk routes, with charging and service networks to be developed along the highways.

Development began in 2023. According to Xia Yongyong, deputy general manager of XCMG Group and head of XCMG Auto, the team first toured logistics hubs in Beijing and Shanghai and asked China Post, JD and SF Express about range, charging speed, efficiency and reliability.

What is known about the truck

XCMG has not disclosed full specifications: the launch materials give no base battery capacity, range, price or start-of-sales date. Here is what is known:

  • Charging. The 800 V platform is designed for megawatt-class charging: the battery goes from 20 to 80% in under 20 minutes.
  • Energy consumption. An in-house integrated electric drive axle works together with the energy management system. According to China Securities Journal, consumption is 15% below the industry average, and the truck was among the first in the industry to receive a Grade 1 energy-efficiency certificate.
  • Weight and payload. More than 200 key components and assemblies have been made lighter. The version with a 600 kWh battery, according to the manufacturer, beats the industry level for payload efficiency by more than 20%.
  • Safety. A body made of 1500 MPa hot-stamped steel and several layers of thermal protection for the battery.
  • Electronics. A central domain controller, a highway driving assistant and a digital cab.

How the truck was tested

Before the launch the truck went through heat, cold, high-altitude and wading tests as well as crash tests. The main published result comes from the proving ground in Yancheng: in 24 hours of non-stop running, the truck, at a gross weight of 49 t, covered 2198 km. Public materials contain no data on how Hanjing performs in freezing conditions over long hauls.

The truck is built by Xuzhou XCMG Automobile Technology, the group's automotive company. According to China Securities Journal, blanks in the stamping shop of its plant are fed by seven-axis KUKA robots, the welding shop runs 120 spot-welding robots, and body welding is fully automated. An AI machine-vision system checks more than 200 key dimensional points on the body. Mixed-model lines assemble 18 models, overall automation exceeds 80%, and a finished truck rolls off the line every 4 minutes.

XCMG's position in the electric truck market

From January to July 2026 XCMG sold about 27,000 new-energy heavy trucks in China, giving it a market share of about 16.2%. The company has been the country's top seller of such vehicles for the third year running, and over those seven months it also led the electric tractor unit segment. Almost 90,000 of its electric trucks are on the road, with a combined mileage of more than 6.6 billion km. In total XCMG has delivered more than 20,000 commercial vehicles to over 100 countries and regions.

XCMG Group chairman Yang Dongsheng said that new-energy commercial vehicles have become the group's second core business. The company's largest export example comes from Indonesia: a mining customer that bought more than 150 electric 8×4 dump trucks with 600 kWh batteries has ordered another 100. XCMG trucks are also sold in Thailand, Guinea and other African countries, and before the launch the company showed its electric commercial vehicles at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover.

Alongside the truck XCMG offers the e路通 telematics platform for monitoring operation, energy consumption and component condition, as well as its "1528" service standard: a response within 15 minutes, an engineer on site within 2 hours, repair within 8 hours, 365 days a year. The company sells the trucks bundled with charging infrastructure and service and offers tailored financing for them. The sources do not say whether the "1528" standard applies to markets outside China.

Will Hanjing come to Kazakhstan?

XCMG has not yet announced deliveries of Hanjing to Kazakhstan, Central Asia or the EAEU. For foreign markets the company promises to adapt its vehicles to local regulations and roads, and it has already set up plants abroad to localise production and service. At the same time, the company's truck range may reach the country through local assembly. In February the Ministry of Industry and Construction reported that Barys Truck Manufactory is building a plant in Astana under an XCMG licence with a capacity of 10,000 vehicles a year. The plans cover dump trucks, tractor units, wheel loaders, motor graders and bulldozers; the investment is estimated at 20 billion tenge, and the plant is expected to start operating in the fourth quarter of 2026. Electric models were not mentioned in that list.

If your fleet is considering XCMG electric trucks, it is worth clarifying the following before talking to a dealer:

  1. what range the truck delivers at full gross weight and in sub-zero temperatures, not just on a proving ground;
  2. whether charging of the required power is available on your routes or at your depots, and who will build it;
  3. which battery capacity and axle configuration are offered for your loads;
  4. what battery warranty, repair times and spare parts availability apply in Kazakhstan.
